Weekend Results: September 8th, 2012

Swift Current’s Redneck Betties played their final home game of a VERY successful season  last Saturday as they faced off against the Deathbridge Derby Dames at the Swift Current Iplex. Though both teams played hard the Betties ultimately came out on top against the Derby Dames, picking up their 4th consecutive win in the process. The Bettie have won 4 of their 5 home games and picked up a victory on the road in Moose Jaw against the LCRD Jaw Breakers on July 7th, which puts them at 5-1 record so far.

But they aren’t done with derby for the year just yet; two more away games still remain! They will next play against the PBDC Gravediggers in Shaunovan, SK on September 22nd. The Gravediggers are the only team to have bested the Betties so far this year. They last met in Swift Current on May 12th where the Gravediggers stole the Betties’ chance at a perfect season by defeating them 147-143 in what proved to be one of the most exciting bouts in Saskatchewan this year. Finally, on October 8th, they will test the SRDL’s Killa’Bees in Saskatoon.

Give ‘Em the Boot

It was a busy couple of days in Red Deer, AB for the Red Deer Roller Derby Association as they were both hosting their Kick Ass Boot Camp and a bout between the RDRDA Nightshades and Rez City Rollers. Though Rez City put up an admirable fight they were bested by the Nightshades, who here proud to celebrate their first win of 2012!

Necessary Roughness

There was a lot to celebrate in Estevan, SK last weekend as  Hillbilly Hurt not only put on their first official home bout but also earned their first big home victory!  But it certainly wasn’t an easy win for Hurt! The Diefen-Break-Hers from Prince Albert’s NorSask Roller Derby kept the score tight throughout the bout and going into the last few jams it looked like it was still anybody’s game. Gotta love close scores in derby!
