Well, no point in being hush hush about it… the cat is out of the bag and discussion is exploding all over social media networks everywhere. Early this morning the Roller Derby Association of Canada (RDAC) sent out an email to member leagues and teams participating in their Regional Tournaments to inform them that RDAC is formally withdrawing their involvement with the Western Tournament in Prince George on July 13th and 14th and the Central Tournament in Moose Jaw on August 10th and 11th. There will also no longer be a 2013 RDAC National Tournament for the winners of the Eastern and Atlantic competitions to participate in.
It now remains to be seen whether or not these two major tournaments currently set up in Prince George and Moose Jaw will continue under a new name, or with the same competitors, or if they will be cancelled completely. But without RDAC’s involvement and without the prospect of a Nationals tournament, teams currently signed on may be less inclined to participate.
RDAC plans to issue a public press release this upcoming Sunday, June 16th, to officially announce their withdrawal and to discuss the future plans of the organization as well as announce who member leagues should contact to voice their questions, concerns, and opinions regarding the current membership model and RDAC’s operations.
