Hooray! We’re thrilled to finally be able to share details with you all about the upcoming central region tournament, named The Bruise-ual Suspects, in Moose Jaw, SK hosted by the Lil Chicago Roller Derby league! On the weekend of August 10th, 6 teams from around Saskatchewan will compete at the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Center in Mosaic Place for the title of Central Champions. Much like with the West Coast Dust Up tournament in Surrey, BC, The Bruise-ual Suspects came together in no small part due to outstanding support from the greater derby community following RDAC’s decision to withdraw from their remaining two regional competitions. Teams, coaches, officials, and supporters from all over were determined to ensure that SOMETHING was still able to happen for all those who had worked so hard in preparation for the previous event. The result of their hard work and determination: two days of derby packed action featuring the talent of many outstanding skaters! Check out the Facebook event page here!
Tickets are $20 per day or $30 for the weekend, children 6-12 are $5 each (children under five enter for free) per day. Tickets are available through Mosaic Place’s box office (110 – 1st Avenue North West), by calling 306-624-2050, or by visiting www.mosaicplace.ca.
Who are these 6 teams?
On the officiating side of things, this exciting event will feature Jeff Tichbourne (who served as THR for the 2012 RDAC Nationals and was a driving force behind the West Coast Dust Up Tournament), aka Noah Backtalk, as the Tournament Head Ref AND acting Tournament Head NSO. Noah is currently in need of a few more Non-Skating Officials to ensure his crews have the appropriate coverage for all of the aforementioned games. To get involved as a NSO for Centrals, contact Noah via email at email@example.com ASAP.
Volunteers are also still welcome to sign up. To get involved contact Anya Azz at firstname.lastname@example.org.
