The Prince Albert Roller Derby league is hosting an excellent 2-day clinic this upcoming March 1st and 2nd that is open to absolutely anybody. Participants will learn the basics of officiating as both a referee and NSO and can also partake in break-away sessions aimed to educate participants on the roller derby community, league maintenance and how to tackle personal issues with the sport.
Featured guest instructors include:
Cody ‘Kurz So Good” Kurz of the Saskatoon Roller Derby League, who will be heading discussion and training for referees on the rules, standards and protocols of the sport. Cody brings with him a plethora of knowledge acquired from his experience officiating major tournaments such as the 2012 RDAC Nationals (Edmonton, AB), The Big O 2013 (Eugene, Oregon), Flat Track Fever 2013 (Calgary, AB), The Bruise-ual Suspects: Central Division Tournament (Moose Jaw, SK), Quad City Chaos 2012 and 2013 (Toronto, ON) and the Primer Torneo Roller Derby in Bogota, Columbia.
Hung Solo: of the Oil City Derby Girls and a member of the River City Riot men’s team, who will offer his knowledge of NSO positions, expectations and responsibilities both on and off the track. Hung has participated in a number of large scale events such as the 2012 RDAC Nationals (Edmonton, AB), Flat Track Fever 2013 (Calgary, AB), and the Alberta Iron Woman Tournament (Crossfield, AB), to name a few.
Kevin ‘Kevlar’ Dennison, Owner and Operator of www.derbyfrontier.com, who will be leading break-away sessions covering topics such as “how to build a strong foundation for your league”, “defining and embracing the derby community”, “Derby Envy: How to Stop Holding Yourself Back” and “Balancing Roller Derby with your Personal and Professional Life”. Kevin will be sharing his experience, perspective and advice acquired from interacting with the sport of roller derby as a skating official at the RDAC Nationals 2012 (Edmonton, AB) and Flat Track Fever 2013 (Calgary, AB), as an assistant coach at The Bruise-ual Suspects: Central Division Tournament (Moose Jaw, SK) and as a participant in the upcoming Destination: Derbyroad trip through 8 states to visit 15 leagues.

The following come directly from the Facebook event page: Saturday will see off skates learning action with workshops and presentations on a number of topics from points to the pack. Covering all the basic rudiments of officiating and much more!
Sunday will provide the on skates portion with a learning scrimmage to provide refs with the opportunity to try out their new knowledge! While giving players the chance to play in a fun scrim just before the Sask derby bouting season hits!
Junior Skaters 16+ are more than welcome to compete in the scrimmage, we will require consent from the legal guardian as well as confirmation from the league coach that benchmarks have been passed.
This Event will tentatively run from Approximately 10AM – 8PM on Saturday (Lunch Provided) and from 12PM – 4PM on Sunday.
Cost is $60 for the weekend
with possible Sunday player drop in TBA

Rooms are available at the Prince Albert Inn at a flat rate of $119 flat rate. They have been booked under Prince Albert Roller Derby 7545 (Saturdays Classes are being held in the Convention room at this location).
